Kathmandu, October 8, 2025 — The Nepali women’s cricket team continued their impressive run against Malaysia, sealing a 3–2 series victory after a thrilling five-wicket win in the final Twenty20 International (T20I) on Wednesday. The triumph mirrors Nepal’s 2023 success, when they also defeated Malaysia by the same 3–2 margin.
Nepal Shine in Decider After Series Level
After drawing level 2–2 with a confident six-wicket win in the fourth T20I, Nepal carried that momentum into the final match. The team displayed discipline with both bat and ball to claim the deciding game and wrap up the five-match series.
Malaysia, who won the toss and chose to bat first, posted 103 for 7 in their allotted 20 overs. Captain Winifred Duraisingam led the charge with a gritty 40 off 46 balls, supported by Mahirah Izzati Ismail (19) and Aina Hamizah Hasim (15).
Kabita Kunwar and Rajmati Airee Lead Bowling Attack
Nepal’s bowlers were exceptional in restricting Malaysia to a modest total. Kabita Kunwar was the star performer, claiming 3 wickets for 16 runs in her four-over spell, including three in her final over. Rajmati Airee was equally effective, picking up 3 for 15 from three overs, while Rachana Chaudhari chipped in with one wicket.
Puja Mahato and Rubi Podar Anchor the Chase
In reply, Nepal made a steady start and reached the target in 18 overs, finishing at 104 for 5. Vice-captain Puja Mahato played a composed knock of 23 off 24 balls, while Rubi Podar top-scored with 26 off 25. Experienced all-rounder Rubina Chhetri guided the team home, remaining unbeaten on 15, alongside Kabita Joshi (1 not out).
Other contributions came from Somshana Khadka (11), Kabita Kunwar (14), and Indu Barma (8). For Malaysia, Alia, Mahirah, and Hasim each took one wicket.
Back-to-Back Series Wins Reflect Nepal’s Progress
The series win marks Nepal’s second consecutive T20I series victory over Malaysia, reaffirming their growing dominance in women’s cricket within the region. The team’s balance, bowling strength, and improved batting depth were key to their success.
Cricket analysts praised Nepal’s consistency and team spirit. With the ACC Women’s Asia Cup Qualifiers and ICC Women’s T20 World Cup pathway tournaments ahead, this result adds valuable confidence to the squad.
